Kevin Hart may be a funny man but that characteristic isn’t what the actor and comedian is limited to.
History Channel has given the go-ahead for a special featuring Hart talking about the lesser-known but important stories from black history. The show’s title will be Kevin Hart Presents: The Black Man’s Guide to History and is slated to be a two-hour special and executive produced by Hart.
The plot of the show begins as Hart finds his daughter questioning why black history appears to only be about slavery and oppression after watching the film 12 Years a Slave. This then has Hart educating his daughter through scripted reenactments about historical figures and others who were black and changed the world.
“I’m very excited to be working with History on this show because not only is it entertaining, and it’s hysterical, but it also is an important program for our country right now,” Hart said. “We hope to make people laugh and learn a bit too.”
Matthew Henson, the official first person to go to the North Pole; Robert Smalls, a former slave who led a revolt on a confederate warship; Mae Jemison, the first black female astronaut and Henry “Box” Brown, a slave who mailed himself to a free state in a box, are all slated to be represented in the special.
